Although most standard Android phones are now released with a minimum of 32 GB of internal storage, by 2021, many smartphone users in our country still use external microSD cards for extra space on their phones. Many people don't need much extra storage, but just put a microSD card in the phone's hybrid slot to maintain the previous habit. Again, those who use a micro SD card, they move the apps installed on the phone to the SD card, because, why not?
But now most of the standard Android phones are released with a minimum of 32 GB internal storage, even though the SD card is now available in smartphones, yet in 2021, many smartphone users in our country still use external micro SD card for extra space in the phone. Many people don't need much extra storage, but just put a microSD card in the phone's hybrid slot to maintain the previous habit. Again, those who use a micro SD card, they move the apps installed on the phone to the SD card, because, why not?
It is wise not to use it. Although many may not agree with this, at present, using an SD card in a smartphone can lead to some problems, if you look at some of the problems may change your mind. So today let's talk about some of the side-effects of using a microSD card in a smartphone, which is why it is better not to use an SD card in a smartphone now.
Speed problem
As we all know, the file transfer speed or any kind of read-write speed of any micro SD card inserted in the phone must be much slower than the internal storage of the phone. Even if all the installed apps of the phone were moved to the SD card using the SD card on the phone 5-6 years ago, no speed issue could be noticed, as 5-6 years ago no Android OS and Android apps were as resource hungry as they are now. So if you run an app from the SD card, the speed at which the SD card could read and write data was enough for that app. That's why we didn't notice any lag or starter.
But now the Android operating system and almost all the apps are much more resource hungry than before. So now if you move the apps you have installed on the micro SD card, you will get more lag and slow performance than usual while using the app. It may not be very noticeable in the case of small apps, but when using a heavy app or playing a heavy game, you will see a good amount of lag and performance issues.
Trouble finding files
Although you can format your inserted SD card according to your phone's file system and use it as your phone's adapted internal storage, this does not mean that your phone will view or merge both internal and external disks as a single drive. The phone will always have two disks as two separate storage devices.
As a result, you may have trouble finding the files you need according to the folder structure of your SD card. For example, you may find yourself in a situation where all the files of your phone are randomly in the internal drive and SD card of the phone and you do not know exactly where the type of file is located. Your SD card may contain your photos and your offline music, and your documents and Chrome downloads may be your phone's internal storage. In that case, it will take a few minutes to find your file when you need it. Because, like Windows, you will never get file management on Android. However, for those whose phone's internal storage is very low, the problem of finding files for extra storage may not be a big issue.
SD card failed
What many may not know is that the SD card's read-write cycle or lifespan is not unlimited. The read-write cycle of each SD card is limited. Every time you access or input data from an SD card, the lifespan of the SD card decreases. The life span of an SD card usually depends on the quality of the SD card. For example, Sandisk's or Transcend's SD card will have a longer lifespan than the cheaper Chinese Namheim SD cards.
So if the SD card you use on the smartphone is not of good quality or good brand, then you can never be sure about the lifespan of the SD card. It is possible that your SD card has crashed within the next 1 day. And so if you keep any important files or documents or anything like that on your SD card without backup, you will have nothing to do if these files are lost in no time. While this is not a big issue for many, it can be a big problem for those who store important documents on the phone's SD card.
Problems migrating data
If you open the SD card of your Android phone and insert it into another smartphone, you will never get direct access to the data of the SD card like Windows drives. You can use the computer's hard drive without any problem by physically connecting it to another computer if you want. But if you insert the SD card used in a smartphone into another smartphone, you will see that the SD card is shown encrypted after inserting. That is, if you want to reuse the SD card used in the old phone on the new smartphone, you have to format the SD card first. And if you format the SD card, you will not get back any data that was in the SD card.
If you want to use the data of the old SD card in the new phone, you need to backup all the data of the SD card to another device before changing the phone. Then insert the SD card in the new phone, format the card and then restore the backed up data, which is a very troublesome task. But if you do not see this whole process as a problem, then it is your personal matter.
Poor gaming performance
If you are a mobile gamer, that is, you play a lot of heavy online multiplayer games on your smartphone every day, then using an SD card or running a game using an SD card can be a bit of a nightmare for you. If the read and write speed of your SD card is not very good, then you can notice thousands of issues during gaming. Such as- Gameplay lag, Animation lag, Starting, Slow loading, Unresponsive touch, Force close etc. This is because most online quality multiplayer games read and write data at a speed that most average quality SD cards can't deliver. However, if you use a good brand and good quality SD card, then you may not read this problem. However, game data on a smartphone should never be stored on an external SD card, if you want to get better performance while gaming.
